Works of Art

Hiya. Hope you’re all having a nice week-end. :-)

Whilst searching for something else on the Net, I stumbled onto something else:-

Rudolf II (Holy Roman Emperor) painted as Vertumnus, Roman God of the seasons, c.1590-1

Isn’t it absolutely mind-blowing? The artist is Giuseppe Arcimboldo (also spelled Arcimboldi) (1527 – July 11, 1593) who was an Italian painter, best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of such objects as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books — that is, he painted representations of these objects on the canvas arranged in such a way that the whole collection of objects formed a recognizable likeness of the portrait subject.

Just wanted to share w/ those who have never seen this before. :-)

Here are some more pix. If you click on them, they will enlarge and you can see them in greater detail. Enjoy!

Spring, 1573, oil on canvas, Louvre Museum, Paris. . . . .

Autumn, 1573, oil on canvas, Louvre Museum, Paris. . . .

They just totally blew me away. Such imagination. Such creativity. Such talent.
